This week, we spent a couple of days in Farnam, Nebraska visiting my parents and sister. Every time I visit Farnam I can appreciate the purpose of small towns. At the same time, small towns are slowly disappearing from America's landscape. It's hard for small towns to keep the young folks from returning. Farnam is no exception. Over ninety-five percent of the population is over sixty years old. The leadership of Farnam is struggling trying to come up with new ways to re-vitalize the town.

Erinn's family is from Marion, PA. It's so small you can barely see it on the map. They have the same problem - all the kids either join the military, go to college, or move to the city. They hardly ever come back. There's not really any industry in town, or any plants, or shopping malls. Almost everyone that lives in town works somewhere else.
I love it there. Time moves slower - you can catch your breath and see the stars at night. They still worry about bears. They have the best wine shops and pancake and egg breakfasts anywhere. People there seem to genuinely care about you.
It's sad to think that places like this are on the decline.
